Midpoint (M)

The midpoint is the point exactly in the middle of segment AB. It divides AB in the ratio 1 : 1.
M = ( (x1 + x2)/2 , (y1 + y2)/2 )

Section point (P)

Point P divides AB in the ratio m : n.
Internal: P is between A and B
External: P lies on the line AB but outside the segment
Shown in purple. When m = n and internal, P coincides with M.
